Real Weddings
Uri + Marines
Uri & Marines were the first couple to be married under our art installation, The Festival Wedding Arch, that my artist fiancé and I made.
Bass Coast is a festival of high quality — from the DJ producers they book, to the stage and sound design, to the art installations. 2025 was my first, and I'm going back in 2026 to legally marry more couples.
Uri & Marines had actually been married for 8 years, but they'd had to have a shotgun office wedding for legal purposes, and because their families are far from Canada they never had a real wedding. They said they never felt legally married, until I wrote them a custom ceremony. We dressed up — Marines as a mermaid, Uri as a surfer guy. Uri wore a Storm Trooper helmet and they ran up the aisle together to the Star Wars main theme song. They had 30 friends as guests in the crowd, dressed up in their camping chairs. The microphone I had wasn't loud enough — luckily I'd brought a backup megaphone. This was my first wedding done with a megaphone, and it was a hit. We had a crowd of well over 100 by the end.
But the most important thing — after 8 years, they finally, truly felt married.
